Lalitha Mahal: The Grandeur of a Royal Guesthouse
The Lalitha Mahal Palace symbol of the grandeur of Mysore stands tall like a majestic testament to the region’s grandness. It is a building made by the Maharaja of Mysore specifically as a residence for his dignified guest, the Viceroy of India. Today, standing majestically atop the base of Chamundi Hill, just out of Mysore, in Karnataka’s cultural heart, it stands more as a prestigious heritage hotel that exudes pure luxury.
This is an iconic two-story white palace having a grand projecting porch, spherical domes, a central dome, and stately columns. The interiors boast polished marble floors, intricately designed rosewood furniture, majestic staircases, exquisite chandeliers, imported carpets, and regal curtains. There are sweeping views of the landscape from the upper floor and life-sized portraits of the royal family, as well as historical artwork celebrating the legacy of Mysore. Lalitha Mahal completed 100 years of heritage in 2021.

Today, the palace is managed by Jungle Lodges & Resorts and offers 54 regal suites and rooms, including the most opulent “Viceroy Suite.” The former ballroom has been transformed into a fine-dining restaurant serving the renowned ‘Mysore Silver Thali,’ a royal feaston silverware.
